About Arctic Studios

Posted by admin November 14, 2025 in Uncategorized

Arctic Studios was founded back in 2015, originally as a small personal project focused on Unreal Engine 4, mainly exploring AI subsystems, behaviour logic, and early gameplay systems. What started as a learning space has grown into a dedicated development studio with a strong focus on systems, experimentation, and indie game creation.

Early Development & Technical Roots

In the early years, our work revolved around understanding how games behave under the surface. This included:

  • Developing AI decision-making systems
  • Building character movement and reaction mechanics
  • Prototyping interaction systems and gameplay behaviours
  • Experimenting with physics, animation, and state-driven logic

These foundations helped define our long-term focus: creating solid, reliable systems before building larger features, ensuring every project has a strong technical base to grow from.

Community Projects & Growth

As Arctic Studios grew, we transitioned from private prototypes to larger community-driven projects. This shift allowed us to design, test, and maintain systems used by hundreds of players day-to-day.

Redemption (FiveM)

Our first major community project was Redemption, a FiveM server that built a strong following and reached a peak active playerbase of over 400. This project gave us hands-on experience with:

  • Large-scale system design
  • Server and client-side optimisation
  • Complex economy and progression mechanics
  • Player-driven gameplay loops and balancing
  • Maintaining stability under heavy player load

Redemption became an important milestone in shaping how we approach structure, performance, and long-term system design.

RedPine (FiveM & RedM)

Following the success of Redemption, we built RedPine — a FiveM and RedM project powered by a custom framework developed entirely in-house. RedPine grew to a lifetime playerbase of over 600 and pushed our technical skills further through:

  • Custom inventory, progression, and reputation systems
  • Advanced NPC behaviour and interaction logic
  • Framework engineering and long-term maintainability
  • Cross-version support across different platforms
  • Scalable systems designed for active, persistent worlds

RedPine represented our most ambitious community project and solidified our experience with full-stack game system development.

Returning to Game Development

After several years working in large-scale community environments, Arctic Studios shifted back to its original focus: creating games. Today, our work is centred on Unreal Engine 5 and building the foundations of our first indie title.

Current development includes:

  • Gameplay system prototypes
  • AI behaviour development and decision-making logic
  • Player movement, control, and interaction systems
  • Environmental logic and world-building tests
  • Tooling and internal utilities to speed up iteration

We are taking a system-first approach, ensuring each piece is solid, flexible, and ready to support larger gameplay ideas.

Side Projects & Software Development

Beyond game development, Arctic Studios continues to work on a range of small software experiments and tools. These include:

  • Custom utilities for workflow improvement
  • Automation tools and script-based helpers
  • UI and UX concepts for development interfaces
  • Prototype-level applications for internal use

These side projects give us space to explore new technologies and sharpen our skills outside the boundaries of traditional game development.

Our Philosophy

Arctic Studios approaches development with a simple mindset:

  • Build strong foundations
  • Prototype quickly
  • Iterate often
  • Fix what breaks
  • Learn from every project

This process-driven approach allows us to stay small, focused, and consistent while working on projects we care about.

Looking Ahead

Right now, Arctic Studios is deep into early Unreal Engine 5 development, experimenting with systems that will form the basis of our first full indie game. In addition to the main project, we continue to build supporting tools, test gameplay mechanics, and explore new concepts that may influence future work.

As development progresses, we will begin sharing devlogs, behind-the-scenes updates, environment tests, and insights into our process.
